Paint correction is the process of removing defects from your vehicles paint finish; through machine polishing or “buffing” as some call it.  The result of proper paint correction is a flawless paint finish free of swirl marks and fine scratches.  A finely polished paint finish will provide the most dramatic difference in your vehicles appearance.  For the deepest, most crystal clear paint finish imaginable, machine polishing is a great addition to any detail package.

An automatic car wash can do more harm than good.  Automotive car washes typically use harsh chemicals that will strip away any wax or sealant.  Even worse, they leave scratches and swirls in your clear coat, which can only be removed via paint polishing by a professional detailer.  Ask yourself the following questions prior to going to an automatic car wash:

  • “Do they ever wash those soft cloths?”

  • “What dirty vehicles went through the tunnel before mine?”

This assembly line method of cleaning vehicles is much less thorough than a proper hand wash.  When your vehicle is cleaned by KJW Detailing, we will use proper products, tools, and techniques to safely clean your vehicle and enhance its natural shine.

A clay bar is a specially formulated bar of clay that detailers use to lift contaminants like dirt, road grime, and industrial fall-out from your vehicles exterior surfaces.  These contaminants will often remain on the vehicle even after a thorough wash, leaving a rough surface.

Tip: To test your cars paint and/or glass surfaces for contamination by placing your hand inside a plastic sandwich bag and then gently drag your hand across the area.  The bag will help to magnify contaminants via a rough catching feeling, which may have otherwise gone unnoticed.

By removing these contaminants with a clay bar, the vehicles paint and/or glass will become smoother, waxes and sealants will be able to properly bond to the surface, resulting in increased gloss and shine.

Your vehicles clear coat needs to be protected, as it’s being attacked every minute of every day, the minute it rolls off the factory floor.  Traditionally, this layer of protection comes in the from of Waxes and Sealants.  However, in recent years the ultimate in vehicle protection is provided by ceramic coating.

Below, is a basic breakdown between Waxes and Sealants:

Carnauba Wax is found in nature and is preferred choice of collectors and concours enthusiasts, because it transforms the paint into a deep, liquid pool that shimmers under changing light conditions.  The more carnauba wax, the more shine, especially when applied on darker colored vehicles.  However, the one drawback to carnauba was is it’s durability.  Carnauba wax will need to be reapplied every 6-8 weeks to ensure proper paint protection for your vehicle.

Sealants are created by scientist, who use synthetic or man-made ingredients.  The main reason for sealants growing popularity, is directly related to its durability.  The majority of sealants will need to be reapplied every 4-6 months, while a few sealants can provide paint protection for almost a year!  When applied, sealants do provide a nice shine, however they tend to look better on metallic paints, or lighter colored vehicles.

When selecting a Wax or Sealant, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Glassy, hard shell or deep, liquid shine?

  • Six weeks or six months?

Your car accumulates numerous contaminants that can harm the finish.  Acid rain, dirt, sand, bugs, tar and UV rays are extremely harmful to the paint.  Detailing leaves microscopic layers of fine wax particles that provide a deep shine and form a clear chemical bond that protects the paint and its original clear coat.  Detailing guarantees longevity to the paint and retains the value of the vehicle.  Professional detailing is not just a luxury it is an investment that has become a necessity!

Absolutely!  New cars have usually been sitting on the lot or have been in transit for months before you drive away with them.  During this time, contaminates can become embedded into the paint, as well as the introduction of swirls and slight imperfections.  Detailing is considered an out-of-pocket expense for dealerships. Therefore, they aim for quantity, not quality.  They simply don’t have the time to use proper techniques and don’t want to spend the money on high quality products.

A proper cleaning, light paint correction, and a ceramic coating or sealant on your new vehicle will not only make your vehicle look right off the show room floor, but it will also help maintain that look over the life of the vehicle (when properly maintained).
